Hydrating while working out

Let's Play Outside

You don’t need a dedicated athlete to tell you the truth – if you want to up your performance and maintain discipline, hydratation is crucial.

Our blood is 70% water. When we sweat, the body loses water, which slows down the flow of blood towards your muscles. A well-hydrated muscle performs better, has a reduced risk of injury and recovers more quickly. On average, an adult loses 1-2 litres of water for every hour of effort. To compensate for this loss, here’s what to do to make sure you stay hydrated throughout your workout.

  • Two hours before working out, drink a minimum of 500 mL (approximately two glasses of water or one bottle of Naya).
  • While you’re exercising, don’t wait until you’re thirsty – drink regularly, ideally every 15 minutes. Don’t chug your water either, 3-4 sips are enough.
  • Once you’re done, continue to drink water to compensate for all the water you lost. Even if you’re not thirsty, if you keep drinking, your body will thank you for it later!

So to stay in top shape and keep focussed like a real athlete would, drink before, during and after your workout!
